PCD AT THE LIGHTING COLLECTION.
Showing for the first time in Lighting Collection PCD will be exhibiting two distinct and varied collections. The first ‘Return of Glamour’ will include some brand new additions to the Glamour collection as well as some revamps of last years products. Showing alongside this will be a brand new collection entitled ‘Birth of Deconstruction’. With this collection we wanted to come at the design process from a different direction, not being restricted by functionality or the urge to make an aesthetically pleasing product. Instead we chose to ‘design by idea’ therefore allowing our creativity to blossom and create unique and individual products.
THE RETURN OF GLAMOUR
A really successful year for the glamour collection in 2006 is capped off with the addition of two new family members, the sexy little French flower Le Fleur and a ceiling light version of our award winning Coral light. Le Fleur is based on a tropical flower; and our objective with this design was to recreate the intensity and beauty of nature in an contemporary centerpiece. Le Fleur is made up of over forty beautifully and individually crafted glass ‘petals’. I’m sure you will agree that the effort is worth the results.
DECONSTRUCTION
DESIGN BY IDEA
The freeing up of the design process has allowed us to investigate many areas of modern culture such as, what we perceive as being precious with ‘The Facet’ the endemic rise of gun culture with ‘Big Boy’ and religious fantasy with ‘Pigs Might Fly’. Each product has it’s own polemic or story to tell, providing a unique and original identity to each piece. This process has created some highly charged and thought provoking concepts, I hope in some way our efforts will inspire others to provide a more creative and stimulating environment for the future.
DECONSTRUCTION
THE HOUSE OF WAX - TAR & FEATHER
The products that we now viually associate with as chandeliers were traditionally a candle holding unit, with the ‘House of Wax’ and ‘Tar & Feather’ we finally hope we have given this shape back the candle. The applied silicone rubber gives the eerie impression that the whole light is melting and with ‘Tar & Feather’ finally tortured this style into submission.
A Happy and Deconstructive New Year to every one at PCD - Peace.
